James T. Callahan
James T. Callahan, M.D. February 10, 2011 After an illness of short duration, and surrounded by his wife, Francie, and loving members of his family, Jim Callahan, 67, of Fayetteville, passed away at home on Thursday. Jim graduated from Linton High School in 1961, where he was a member of the varsity tennis and ski teams. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of Holy Cross in 1965, where he was a member of the rugby team. In 1969 Jim received his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center. While in medical school at Upstate, Jim was elected president of the Knocker's Society, a social and lecture organization. His internship was completed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, followed by a residency at Upstate. During his career as a radiologist, Jim was a member of various medical societies. Jim joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served with distinction from 1973-1975 as a lieutenant commander at Quantico Marine Base. Following his military service and a two-year career at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, Jim returned to Syracuse. He served as a radiologist at Crouse Hospital until shortly before his death. Jim was proud of his association with his partners at Crouse Radiology Associates and their CEO, Mary Ann Drumm. He was a member of the United Church of Fayetteville. Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Francie Rombough; son, Dr. Michael (Beth) of Weston, Massachusetts; daughter, Erin (Rick) Fowler of Jamesville, New York; and six adorable and adoring grandchildren, Caitlin Hence, Cole and Cade Fowler, and Grace, Michael, and Nora Callahan. Jim also leaves behind his brother, John (Linda) of Shoreline, Washington, and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and colleagues. A memorial service will be officiated by Jim's brother-in-law, Pastor Ronald Rombough of Jacksonville Chapel in Lincoln Park, NJ, on Tuesday, February 15, beginning at 10 a.m. at Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, February 14, at the funeral home, 7191 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville.
