Engel, Mary Ann GLLENVILLE Mary Ann Engel, 73, of the Glendale Nursing Home died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Ellis Hospital. Mary Ann was born in Alexandria, La. to the late Victor and Marjorie Allen Gutowski and had lived in Schenectady most of her life. She graduated from Maria College with an associate's degree in nursing, Empire State College with a bachelor's in nursing and Union College, receiving a master's degree in education. Mary Ann worked as a nurse at the former St. Clare's Hospital for 31 years. After retiring from St. Clare's she taught at Ellis School of Nursing and Union College. Mary Ann was an independent spirit who had a love for teaching, all types of music and art and the New York Yankees. Most important to her was her family and friends. Mary Ann was predeceased by her brother, V. James Gutowski and her granddaughter, Samantha. She is survived by three children; Gerald (Marlene) Engel of Clifton Park, Judith (Frank Daly) Engel of Brunswick and Joseph Engel of Duanesburg; two siblings, Deborah (David Palmer) Gutowski of Niskayuna and Andrew (Cathy Chuba) of Howes Cave; six grandchildren, Ian, Alex, Joey, Bella, Madeleine and Ruby; six nieces and nephews; Michelle, Jamie, Victor, Grace, Stephanie and Andrea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted Thursday, March 31, at 10 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ellis School of Nursing, 1101 Nott St., Schenectady, NY 12308. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ellis Hospital for the superb care they provided the last week.
