                  DAVID CHARLES MORIN

David Charles Morin died at the Veteran's Home of California in Yountville on February 10, 2018 at age 75. He was born in Schenectady, New York on September 4, 1942 to Margaret Rose Varriale and Charles Joseph Morin.  The middle child of three siblings, David was a happy, blue eyed, sensitive but strong boy.  At about age 8, he saved his younger brother from drowning while swimming in a quarry. He graduated in 1961 from Linton High School.  David played football and served on the Student Body.  After high school David was the family pioneer moving west to Southern California where he worked his way up to a management position at Thrifty Drug Store.

David was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1965.  During that time he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington and in Alaska.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in March of 1967.

He returned to Southern California and resumed his position with Thrifty Drugs until leaving in the 80's for Las Vegas. He rose to Keno Supervisor at the Riviera Hotel and Casino.  David loved the Vegas life-style and enjoyed the entertainment of a 24-hour-a-day city.  He was always quick to open his home to those in need and loved taking friends and family to shows and various Las Vegas sites.

David loved food and learned to cook from his Italian mother. Spaghetti sauce and lasagna were his specialties.

In 2001 , at age 59, David suffered a massive stroke while at work. His younger brother Charles and family took care of David in their home until 2006 when David began requiring more care than Charles could provide. Thankfully, Charles found great care for David at the nearby Yountville Veteran's Home.
David loved all the activities and went to all the shows, baseball games, and all the other events that were held during his time there.  He was well known and liked, and he walked the grounds extensively making many friends during the early part of his twelve years at the Veterans Home. When family came to visit it was always fun to find him by asking the shuttle driver or anyone walking to direct you to Mr. Morin.  He was always found, happy and excited to have company.
David is survived by his five children: Denise, Kristina, Jennifer, Tony and Tyler; his sister Judith A. Stewart and her husband Richard Sherwood; and his brother Charles Joseph Morin and wife Nancy.

David spent twelve years at the Veterans Home, and the family would like you to know that David was very happy during his time with you.  He was always given great care by everyone and we are very appreciative of the love he was shown by the staff.

Charles, also a war veteran, will be receiving the memorial flag at the service.
