ELSIE SHERMAN

HAMPDEN – Elsie (Wurth) Sherman, 65, died Nov. 26, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. Elsie was born July 26, 1942, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of Reinhard and Margaret (Miller) Wurth. After graduating from Schenectady’s Linton High School in 1961, Elsie graduated from Andrew Carnegie School, Boston, and later worked for 25 years at Memorial Hospital, Albany, N.Y., as a medical technologist in the chemistry lab. Elsie moved to Hampden, in 1989. Elsie loved to work in her flower garden. She became a member of the Hampden Garden Club, serving as its president from 1996 to 1999. Elsie later served as director of Penobscot District of Garden Club Federation of Maine, GCFM. At the time of her passing Elsie served as an active board member for the GCFM. She is a Maine state life member of the GCFM. Elsie was the recipient of the Tri-Color Ribbon for her floral arrangement awarded for Best-in-Show at the 2007 Bangor Garden Show. Elsie took great interest in Maine’s lighthouses having visited all that can be reached by auto travel. Elsie had suffered with Scleroderma for more than 10 years, however, died from a sudden stroke. Elsie found herself in an ever-increasing decline in health from Scleroderma, she would have suffered more in the end over a long period of time. God took her early…a blessing in disguise. She was a strong, kind lady and will be dearly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck;” her son, Bryan DeLuke and wife, Liz; Chuck’s children, Colleen Junggren of Castle Rock, Colo., Kathleen Driscoll of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Andrew Sherman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Ruth Nej-man of Niskayuna, N.Y. Friends are invited to pay their respects 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Elsie will be laid to rest with her parents in a Mausoleum at Memory’s Gardens, Colonie/Albany, N.Y. In keeping with Elsie’s love of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in her memory to Hampden Garden Club, care of Judy Luro, 202 Main Road North, Hampden, ME 04444.
